Create a Spring Bulb Garden
There is nothing like the scent of hyacinths wafting through the house. The bright colors of yellow daffodils, pink, blue, and white, hyacinths, and so many colorful tulips brighten up the cold and dreary days of early spring, especially here in West Michigan. Spring Flowers are so happy and bring so much joy.
One of my favorite ways to create with these flowers is in a container bulb garden. Let’s walk through the steps of how to create one of these for yourself. It is as easy as using your favorite spring items and meshing them all together in a creative beautiful garden.
Step 1: Find a container that sparks joy. This could be any container such as a basket (Easter basket?), flower pot, decorative bowl, or something else. I often find fun containers at local dollar stores or box stores.
Step 2: Fill the container with moist potting soil.
Step 3: Gather your spring bulbs. I like to use fancy daffodils, fun tulips, and aromatic hyacinths. There are other spring bulbs, but these are the most common. If using hyacinths, I like to divide the clump of hyacinths into single bulbs or smaller clumps for a more even appearance in the container. Plant the bulbs inside the container and water.
Step 4: Top your container with moss and/or other natural elements. Pussy willow and flowering branches can also be used as a decorative accent. These accents also help support the flower stems from getting heavy or droopy and falling over.
Keep your bulb garden in a cool location, out of the sun for the longest lasting life, and enjoy the vibrant colors, variety of shapes, and the fresh amazing smell of spring flowers which will be sure to bring a smile to your face after a long winter.
I hope you plant a spring bulb container garden for yourself to bring joy to a friend! Let me know if you do, or have any questions.
