Create a Simple Yet Beautiful Potted Amaryllis
We are creating a very simple potted amaryllis garden.
We want this weird onion-looking bulb to be beautiful even when our Amaryllis are not blooming.
Adding a few simple touches is like bringing a little bit of the outdoors in. It’s fun to mix into your holiday and winter decor.
You will need:
green reindeer moss
regular sheet moss
pine cones
lightly moistened potting soil
You are going to need a pot. The size of the pot you use will depend on the size of your bulb. I'm using this eight-inch terracotta because I have jumbo-sized bulbs. You want your pot to be slightly bigger than your bulb.
Okay, the first thing you will do is start by filling your pot with some moistened soil. I fill it almost to the top. Then, take your big, giant, fat Amaryllis bulb and gently press it into your soil. Lightly tamp the dirt down around it.
Adding Moss:
Next, you're going to add your sheet moss. Layer on top of the soil and mound it around your bulb. Easy peasy. Just stamp it in there and rip it apart a little bit. It is a little bit messy.
Add your reindeer moss. Reindeer moss comes in different colors: green, dark green, tan, and lime green. You may even find blue and pink. I'm using dark green, and I like it because it adds so much texture.
Adding Accessories:
The next thing I like to do is add a few pine cones. They add such a nice touch. You might have to separate your moss and get your bigger ones in there. Press them gently into the moss and soil. Watch the video for a quick tip to make your pinecones fit.
Add any finishing touches to your pot.
Dried flowers
berries.
Fake snow would be fun as well.
Let your imagination run wild.
And there you have it! A very simple potted.
Your Amaryllis should look beautiful, even when it’s not blooming.
